Something good for your soul and belly...Haitian Pâté

Let me just start by saying I hate we didn't video the cooking lesson, our chef was a natural! He was so energetic and made each step look easy as pie.  Also please know I'm not a big gadgets girl when it comes to the kitchen but even a cutting board can be taken for granted.  Okay so we started a large pot with water to hard boil several eggs. You want one egg per person. We were making enough for 18 people so I won't post measurements in here I'll leave a smaller recipe at the very bottom.  I really encourage you to try it.  Then in a large mixing bowl we added flour setting some flour aside to work in later. In a second bowl you want to dissolve some salt into water.  This water will be mixed in the flour to make the dough.  Not all the water needs to be poured in at once but instead slowly add as needed. If you have multiple hands helping in the kitchen you can have them chopping up onions, bell peppers and cabbage. They need to be thin...

let me tell you about canaan.

canaan is one of our partner communities & we LOVE visiting there. the people are thriving, loving & FULL of joy. after the earthquake a lot of people came to this mountain to start a new beginning. the coolest part of the story is that way before the earthquake a sweet woman answered the lords voice to go to the top of this mountain everyday & pray. she prayed & prayed for what God had in store for this mountain. flash forward to today & there is a church right where she prayed. there is a school that they started in faith that is growing & thriving & so full of LIFE! this past trip we were able to do VBS with these school children & share the love of jesus with them. they are such bright kids with incredible futures! we were so blessed to have tracey on this trip with us who organized our VBS! she had stories, games & amazing crafts. we had some people that donated funds for us to buy a parachute to play SO MAY GAMES with. the ki...

team member #kesley

one thing we love at RI is hearing about the trips through our team  members . we love to see what God showed them & continues to show them through their walk with God &  through  their trips to haiti. today we have kelsey on the blog sharing a little bit about her  first  trip to haiti with us. k elsey , you were such a joy to have. you have such a contagious laugh & a beautiful spirit. God is doing a work in your life & we are so excited to be apart of your journey. we are so thankful for all  you do  for RI, how much you love these kiddos & your willing heart to go above & beyond.  for  kelsey: for months leading up to our trip, evanda kept telling me how excited she was to see all the kids there, and i couldn’t wait. the second we pulled into CAD, our car was completely surrounded by little faces with beaming smiles. i wanted to greet each and every face, but the only feeling i initially had in those firs...

#riboyshome

the title says it all. GOD IS SO GOOD. we want to take a minute & say THANK YOU to every single person that gave your hard earned money to RI to make this boys home possible. we have all cried many tears of just being blown away & thankfulness. the fact that we just started this thing wanting to do honest work in haiti & that we have so many amazing supporters is incredible. our dream of our school & our home for children has started a little early. boys that we have known for years needed our help & we took a step of faith & you guys came in & blew us away. NOW we have a house for them. a house mom that will take care of them. they will get good meals including the fruit from our land in mirebalais where our school will be one day. they will have a shower which they have never had. they will have a working toilet which they have never had. they will have a comfortable bed with a pillow. they will have a closet to put their things. things that no one c...

UPDATE!

WE ARE SO EXCITED! we have found a house. not just any house but the PERFECT house. rooms for all the kids. the staff. gated. in a perfect community. close to great schools. has water & electricity. IT IS PERFECT. what is even better, is that our groups can stay at this house with the kiddos! so when we are there we all get to build a relationship with these boys. HOW INCREDIBLE. when we do community outreach these boys get to take part. when we pray at night they will be apart. when we cook in the kitchen they will be apart. being apart of all these things also means they are learning. they are listening & learning & watching what RI is all about. everything they learn is an opportunity for them. an opportunity to grow & to teach others. we need $2000 to get this house right now. we will need to get beds & all of that too but the most important thing is getting this house so someone else does not because it is that good. GOD IS GOOD! some of our project...

a HOME for our boys.

YOU GUYS! i am so excited to give you some details on our boys home. we have started an "adopt a box" & made a beautifully awkward video about it HERE i wanted to write a post to give you some details! SO. we need to have this box filled by 3 weeks! why 3 weeks? so we have enough time to get the house prepared, get beds, a stove, sheets, towels, all of the things a little house will need. the boys need to have the house ready by june. so we are in a time CRUNCH! we will have a house mom that will live there & take care of them everyday. they will get all the meals they need, they will have someone to make sure they brush their teeth, do their homework, study for their test, read their bible, say their prayers ALL the things kids are so deserving of & most do not get. all of these boys do not have family that can take them in or we would work towards that. we don't want them to get lost in the system or live in the streets. HELP us HELP them. can you ...

godparents.

one cool thing that RI does is a "godparent" program with the kids at CAD. it is the coolest thing because so many of our kids have amazing relationships with their godparents. they make journals & write back & forth & the kids LOVE it. most of the time i never have to tell them to write something back. they know i am coming & they have it ready for me. so sweet. our godparents are the BEST. their monthly donation goes towards providing water, food, & propane every month. sometimes the godparents will send us things to take to the kids & we get so excited to give it to them. we make it such a special  moment for the kids to feel cared for & they know someone is praying for them & cares for them. we bring them into a room all by themselves & we sit them in a chair, we have a little talk with them about how they are doing in school, how they are eating, how they are doing in general & then we present them with their g...
